Ear Reshaping Surgery

Otoplasty Surgery is a procedure that reshapes the ears, improving the aesthetic look for the patient's face. A patient's ears may appear to be mishaped due to an accident or perhaps they have been misaligned since they were born. One of most common issues that we see is that the earlobe has been torn due to earrings or some form of external trauma. This procedure is a very fast and simple procedure performed by the Dr. K. Charles Kim.  Torn earlobes involve adding stitches to the injury and can be removed generally within one week.

Generally speaking, children must be at least five years old to undergo Otoplasty Sugery. This is because the ear is 80% of adult size at this age. In addition, most five year olds are mature enough to follow postoperative instructions. Finally, before children start school, otoplasty can help children adjust quicker socially.

Ear Repair Surgery

Reconstructive Otoplasty is a cosmetic procedure to fix a mishapen ear resulting from injury or ears that appear unequal is size or stature.  The Otoplasty procedure, which is performed as an out-patient surgery in the Beverly Hills and Orange County Plastic Surgeon's fully accredited surgical suites, is performed to enhance and reposition ear cartilage as well as removed an unecessary or sagging skin.

There are many techniques to Ear Reshaping and the Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon will discuss all the options with you during your complimentary consultation. There are suture otoplasty techniques and excisional otoplasty techniques each ear has different components that may be reshaped by otoplasty. Some times the ear is folded back by sutures to reshape the ear. Sometimes a portion of excess skin and cartilage is excised to help the ear stay in a backward position.
