Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery: Breast Reduction

The Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon and Orange County Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Kyoung Charles Kim is an expert in breast reduction surgery.  This procedure is also known as reduction mammaplasty and is becoming a more common type of surgery.  This procedure is performed by some of the best and most respected plastic surgeons in the world, and Dr. K. Charles Kim is on of them.

When it comes to breast reduction surgery, the techniques that Dr. Kim uses, include liposuction, which results in quicker recovery times and little or no scarring.

Breast reducti´╗┐on surgery, otherwise known as a mammaplasty, removes the excess fat, glandular and skin tissue from the breast.  This reduces the total size of the breast making it lighter more firm than before. Breast reduction surgery may also decrease the size of the areola, which is the the darker skin surrounding the nipple.

Dr. Kim's goal is to provide the woman with smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body. Breast reduction surgery is a very safe and permanent way to give breasts a smaller appearance and more proportionate dimensions compared to the individual's body.  This will ultimately increase the patient's comfort level and reduce any level of insecurity about the size of her breasts.

Breast reduction surgery has a number of benefits.  It may help women whose breasts cause discomfort or medical problems, such as back or neck pain, irritation or the skin, skeletal deformities in the back and spine, and potentially breathing problems. The breast reduction procedure can also help women feel confident and less self-conscious about their breasts.

When it comes to the cost of breast reduction surgery, it can be partially or fully covered by insurance. If there are underlying medical problems associated with the large breasts, such as back  or neck pain intertrigo (an infection under the breasts), infections, pain in the shoulders or trap muscles, and sensory loss, then get in contact the Dr. K. Charles Kim today by calling his office or submitting a patient request form online.

Dr. Kim can provide you with specific information during a free consultation on how he will perform the breast reduction surgery based on your individual needs, breast size and the results that you are looking to achieve.

Breast reduction surgical techniques vary depending on each type of patient. In the most circumstances, the liposuction technique is not elected, but rather, Dr. Kim makes an anchor-shaped incision around the areola. This surgical incision extends down, following the curve of the crease beneath the breast.

It is through the incision, that Dr. Kim is able to remove the excess glandular tissue, fat tissue and skin tissue, and adjusts the nipple in to its new position. Doctor Kim then reshapes each of the breasts and carefully stitches the incision, the doctor's goal being the least amount of scarring. In some cases, the part of the scar that runs vertically can be eliminated. Stitches are typically removed within 1 to 3 weeks.

Breast reduction surgery is performed as an out-patient procedure in either our Beverly Hills or Orange County fully-accredited surgical suites. The procedure itself takes between two and four hours and is done under a general or local anesthetic.  Dr. Kim will discuss which type of anesthetic is preferable for the surgery during your complimentary consultation.

Oftentimes, many of the LA/ Orange County Plastic Surgeon's patients who elect to have breast reduction surgery also elect to have a breast lift surgery performed at the same time. A breast lift, also called mastopexy, can correct sagging breasts, even after breast reduction surgery.  A breast lift directly fixes this concern and the plastic surgeon can perform both operations at the same time.
